# Credits and usage

## How credits work

Work in SourceGeek uses **credits**. They belong to the workspace and are shared by all its members.

- Your plan gives the workspace a number of credits every month, per seat. They renew on the 1st of each month; unused monthly credits don't carry over
- **Additional credits**, bought or earned through [referrals](/referrals), are used once the monthly credits run out. Bought credits never expire; referral credits expire about six months after you get them

## What uses credits

| Action | Credits |
| --- | --- |
| Each answer from SourceGeek, in a chat, task, automation or bot | 1 |
| Fast search for candidates, companies or job postings | 5 |
| Precision search | 25 |
| Profile or company data lookup | 0.1 |
| Scoring a candidate | 1 |
| Web search or reading a page | 1 |
| Research report | 20 |
| Data processing in a sandbox | 10 |

[What SourceGeek can do](/capabilities) lists every action and its cost. Dictation, reading your own sheets and documents, CBS and ESCO lookups, and planning project tasks are free.

## Keep track

- The **ring next to the send button** shows how much of this month's credits you've used. Hover over it for the numbers and the reset date
- A **banner** above the message box warns you when three quarters of the monthly credits are used
- Workspace admins get an email at 90% and 100%

## The Usage page

Go to **Settings → Usage**. Every member can see it.

- **Usage**: credits used and remaining, your monthly allowance, additional credits, credits by action and per member, and a heatmap of activity over the last six months
- **Agent activity**: every change SourceGeek made in your tools through [connectors](/connectors), with a link to the chat

Each project task also shows its own credits in its details. See [Projects](/projects#credits).

## When credits run out

When the workspace runs out of credits, SourceGeek can't start new work: you see **Out of credits** in the chat, and automations pause. Everything you made stays available.

To continue, a workspace admin can:

- **Buy credits** or turn on **Auto-refill** under [Billing](/billing#buy-credits)
- Upgrade to a plan with more credits, or add seats
- Wait for the monthly credits to renew on the 1st
